Changes from previous updates.
No internet connection required. VelaClock is a unique widget in that it is completely self-contained. Many widgets are light weight front-ends to web services; such widgets require an internet connection. By contrast, VelaClock is designed to function without an internet connection, and so is particularly useful for laptop users away from their home or office. Astronomical calculations are performed by an internal code module.
VelaClock Deluxe has all the features of VelaClock, plus:
- Change current date: to change date, click the new calendar icon in the bottom right corner of the front of the widget. Changing the current date allows one to see sun, moon and time zone info for dates in the past or future.
- User-defined places: to add a user-defined place, click on the "Edit User-Defined Places" button on the back of the widget; this will launch a small utility application to specify city, country, time zone and a latitude/longitude point. Imports from, then shares user-defined places with VelaTerra 1.2
Only in VelaClock Deluxe
Change Date pane
Click on the new Calendar icon to show or hide the Change Date pane.
The Change Date pane allows one to quickly go to any day in the past or future (from 1932 to 2020).
Uses:
• Click the '+1' (increment day) button to determine sunrise, sunset and twilight times for days in the near future.
• Determine when the moon rises or sets. This is great for outdoor events or photography.
• Find the phase of the moon for your birthday.
• Go back in time to explore different time zones. For example, visit Hawaii in 1944 to see that it previously observed UTC-9.5. VelaClock has historically accurate Daylight Saving Time rules.
Only in VelaClock Deluxe
User-Defined Places
To add a new place, launch a small utility application from the back of the widget to specify city, country, time zone and a latitude/longitude point.
Utility Application Screenshots:
Light Level pane
The light level bar displays 24 hours of natural light (bright daylight, three levels of twilight, and night) for the current day.
The horizontal white bar indicates when the moon is visible.
Daylight duration and the change in minutes of daylight from the previous day are displayed below the Light Level bar.
VelaClock (deluxe and standard)
Rise/Set Times pane
For the current day, VelaClock displays times for sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset and the begin/end of each kind of twilight for the selected city.
VelaClock (deluxe and standard)
Moon Phases pane
VelaClock displays an image of the moon as seen in the sky above the currently
selected city. This image accurately depicts the angle at which the moon's
crescent appears to be rotated from the vertical. Because this angle can change
dramatically within the span of an hour, it is updated once a minute. The
boundary of the illuminated region of the moon is also updated every minute,
resulting in accurate depiction of the moon's phase. The name of the current
moon phase is provided, as well as local times for the next and previous phase
events (new, quarter, full).
VelaClock (deluxe and standard)
Analog Clock pane
An analog clock that conveys day, night or twilight, the season, the local date and time as well as time zone information are
displayed for the selected city. The relative time shows the number of hours the
selected city is ahead or behind the current time zone set in System Preferences.
VelaClock (deluxe and standard)
Basic View
When no cities are selected, the information view collapses and is hidden.
The digital time format can be toggled between 12-hour and 24-hour by clicking on the digital time boxes.
Backside
Cities can be added, removed and reordered on the backside of the widget.
VelaClock 2.0.1 and Safari 3.0 beta are now compatible!
Monday, July 16, 2007 Update:
VelaClock 2.0 and Safari 3.0 beta were not compatible. Several weeks ago when Safari 3.0 beta was released, it was immediately discovered that incompatibilities prevented VelaClock 2.0 and Safari 3.0 beta from functioning on the same system. We worked hard to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
